Food is Medicine. Food, water and shelter are the three most imperative necessities of life. Without them, life becomes unsustainable within days. At Longevity Health Center, all of our providers have functional understanding of the importance of food choices. Our experts in Traditional Chinese Medicine nutrition are well versed in therapeutic diets as well as individually prescribing sustenance diets.
Therapeutic vs Sustenance diets: Often the words ‘diet’ and ‘lifestyle’ are grouped together. The reason for this is that eating is such an important part of our lives. Historically, humans would spend their days hunting and gathering their food and it was a full-time job. In modern times, we have conquered the natural world and spend many hours of our days sitting behind computers, talking or texting on our phones, reliving our youth as weekend warriors, and so on. The tradeoff comes with a new price: chronic illness, pain, and obesity. In light of this, how do we eat better if we don’t know how to cook, or what to cook? This is why we focus on education. Bookstores and health gurus are loaded with instructions of, ‘do this, and don’t do that’. But they are not necessarily educating as to ‘why’, nor are they customizing for your individual health needs. Chinese Medicine is a holistic medicine which not only accounts for the connectivity of all parts of the body, but also all parts of the being. We examine the entire life of a person and customize a wellness plan for lifestyle and nutrition and then help administer it and counsel as needed to create a more successful plan, which in turn promotes health and longevity.
We hope to offer small and medium classes by early Summer 2017 for nutrition and lifestyle education and practice. Until then, please ask any of our providers basic nutrition questions or schedule a consult with one of our nutrition specialists.
